Trump Grants 75-Day Extension on TikTok Ban Amid China Tariff Disputes

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order extending the deadline for ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, to divest its U.S. operations by an additional 75 days. This decision comes after recent escalations in U.S.-China trade tensions, including the imposition of a 104% tariff on Chinese goods.

The extension aims to provide more time for negotiations and to secure the necessary approvals for a potential deal. Trump emphasized the importance of keeping TikTok operational in the U.S., stating, “We do not want TikTok to ‘go dark.'”

However, this move has faced criticism from lawmakers. Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) labeled the delay as “against the law,” arguing that it undermines national security concerns and defies bipartisan legislation previously upheld by the Supreme Court.
