Prince Harry Challenges UK Government Over Security Protections

​Prince Harry has initiated an appeal against a High Court ruling concerning his security arrangements in the United Kingdom. Represented by lawyer Shaheed Fatima KC, the Duke of Sussex contends that he was “singled out” and subjected to “inferior” treatment by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) following his decision to step back from royal duties in 2020. Specifically, Harry argues that RAVEC deviated from standard procedures by implementing a bespoke security process without conducting the typical expert assessments, thereby denying him and his family automatic police protection. ​

The appeal asserts that the Home Office breached its own policies by not involving the Risk Management Board and failing to provide adequate justification for its decisions. In response, the government maintains that the modified security arrangements were appropriate, given Harry’s changed status, and were legally sound.

This legal challenge underscores ongoing tensions between Prince Harry and the royal establishment, particularly concerning issues of security and public funding. The case is being heard by three senior judges, with certain proceedings conducted privately due to the sensitive nature of the evidence.
