​Maryland Woman Urges Trump Administration: “Stop Playing Political Games with My Husband”​

Jennifer Vasquez Sura, wife of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, is pleading for the return of her husband, who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador on March 12, 2025. Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident and father of three, had lived in the U.S. for 14 years under legal protection from deportation due to threats from Salvadoran gangs. Despite this, he was forcibly removed and imprisoned in El Salvador’s notorious Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT).

“That dream was shattered on March 12th when he was abducted and disappeared by the United States government in front of our 5-year-old child,” Vasquez Sura said during a recent court hearing. “I will not stop fighting until I see my husband alive”.​

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled the deportation illegal and ordered the administration to facilitate Abrego Garcia’s return. However, both the Trump administration and El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele have refused to act, with Bukele labeling Abrego Garcia a “terrorist”.​

Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland has traveled to El Salvador to advocate for Abrego Garcia’s release and assess his well-being
