Harry Quits Diana’s Memorial Charity in Emotional Split – ‘Devastated’ by Decision

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, has resigned from his role as patron of Sentebale, the African charity he co-founded in 2006 with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in honor of their mothers. This decision follows significant internal conflicts within the organization, particularly involving the chairwoman, Dr. Sophie Chandauka.

The charity’s board of trustees, including Timothy Boucher, Mark Dyer, Audrey Kgosidintsi, Kelello Lerotholi, and Damian West, unanimously resigned, citing a loss of trust and confidence in Dr. Chandauka’s leadership. In response, Dr. Chandauka has refuted these allegations and reported the trustees to the Charity Commission, alleging governance issues, abuse of power, and harassment. The Charity Commission is currently assessing the situation.

Prince Harry expressed being “devastated” by the circumstances leading to his departure, emphasizing his continued commitment to the charity’s beneficiaries. The recent turmoil has also seen the resignation of other high-profile members, including CEO Richard Miller and senior member Andrew Tucker.

This development underscores the challenges Sentebale faces amid internal disputes and highlights the complexities involved in managing charitable organizations.
