Secret Service Shoots Armed Man Near White House

On Sunday, March 9, 2025, around midnight, U.S. Secret Service agents engaged in an armed confrontation with Andrew Dawson, a 27-year-old man from North Manchester, Indiana, near the White House. The incident occurred at the intersection of 17th and G Streets NW, close to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is adjacent to the White House.

Local Indiana police had alerted the Secret Service about Dawson, labeling him as a “suicidal individual” potentially en route to Washington, D.C. Upon locating his vehicle near 17th and F Streets NW, agents found Dawson nearby. During their approach, Dawson brandished a firearm, leading to the agents opening fire. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital; his current condition remains undisclosed. No Secret Service personnel were injured during the incident.
Andrew Dawson had a prior arrest for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Local authorities had been aware of his suicidal tendencies, suggesting that his actions might have been an attempt at “suicide by cop.”
