Zelensky Accuses Russia of Deception Over Black Sea Ceasefire Agreement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of manipulating recently brokered ceasefire agreements concerning the Black Sea and energy infrastructure. The truce, facilitated by the United States, aims to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea and halt attacks on energy facilities. Despite these intentions, Zelensky expressed skepticism about Russia’s commitment, citing their history of distorting agreements and setting conditions that complicate the peace process.

Russia has stipulated that its adherence to the ceasefire is contingent upon the lifting of U.S. sanctions on specific financial institutions. This condition has raised concerns about the feasibility of the truce and Russia’s genuine intentions.

While Ukraine has agreed to comply with the ceasefire terms immediately, Russia’s demands for sanction relief introduce uncertainty into the agreement’s implementation. Zelensky has called for continued international pressure on Moscow to ensure adherence to the truce and prevent further manipulation.

This development underscores the ongoing challenges in achieving a lasting peace in the region, with trust between the parties remaining a significant hurdle.
